Timeless Concerts Box Office

April in Paris

Of course we must include on this concert the popular French song, “April in Paris”, since this concert is of the same title! David Robinson will sing several French songs of his choosing as well. Our featured composer will be Charles - Camille St. Saens, born in Paris, France in 1835, living until 1921. This late romantic era composer is known especially for THE CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS, DANSE MACABRE and his opera, SAMSON AND DELILAH. In addition to his many symphonic works, he wrote much chamber music, and we will perform the second of his two piano trios, (for violin, cello and piano). He composed this wonderful piece while vacationing in Algeria. In the busy piano part of the opening movement, one can hear the rise and fall of the waves of the ocean St. Saens enjoyed on the Algerian coast. Some have commented that Saint Saens’ admiration for Tchaikovsky was apparent in this composition, as his style seems to compliment that of the other famous composer. Every part of this piano trio is very interesting and shows a rich texture with beautiful melodies, including a “habanera-like” (Spanish dance) movement.
