Ain't That Rich

Friends of the Orange Depot is pleased to present Kate Robards’ AIN’T THAT RICH as a limited engagement benefiting Orange Community Players.

The event will be at the newly restored Orange Train Depot at 1210 Green Avenue in Orange Texas on September 15th, 2018. Doors open at 7pm with a service of hor d'oeuvres and wine. The performance will begin at 8pm followed by a short talk-back session with Kate. Limited seating for this one-time engagement is available for $50/ticket. All proceeds benefit Orange Community Players restoration efforts from Hurricane Harvey.

"We are thrilled, not only that a dear friend of OCP is performing her show for us locally, but that she is again so graciously offering up the proceeds to benefit our theatre," says Krystal Smith, Publicity Chair of OCP's Board of Directors. Robards is a graduate of West Orange Stark High School, Lamar University and California College of the Arts. Robards performed her show "Mandarin Orange" in Orange in 2015, also to benefit the theatre.

Only 120 tickets for this one night only event are available. Tickets can be purchased online from OCP's website at ocplayers.org or at Lookin' Good Salon (3711 N 16th St, Orange, TX 77632).

About Kate Robards:

Kate Robards is an award-winning writer and performer. She has lived around the world, including Amsterdam and Shanghai, but identifies deeply with Orange, Texas, the small Gulf Coast town on the Texas-Louisiana border where she spent the first twenty years of her life. Her work often deals with the sense of home, rootedness, and identity.

About the show:

KATE GREW UP “POOR.” SHE THINKS HER HUSBAND IS “RICH.” HIS FAMILY SAYS THAT’S NOT A NICE WORD. AS KATE STRADDLES TWO DIFFERENT EXTREME WAYS OF LIFE, SHE REALIZES WHAT MONEY CAN AND CANNOT BUY, INCLUDING THE POSSIBLE SALVATION FOR A LOVED ONE.

Ain’t That Rich was developed with assistance from Solo Sundays at Stage Werx and The Marsh, both in San Francisco. It premiered at Capital Fringe in Washington, DC where it was named “Best of Fringe,” and given 5 stars by DC Metro Theatre Scene. The show won first prize and audience choice at Maui Fringe. An excerpt of the play was published in Luna Luna Magazine. Ain’t That Rich ran at NYC Frigid Fest and Montreal Fringe where it was produced by Really Spicy Opera. The Marsh Theatre in San Francisco produced a seven-week run at the end of 2017. On September 20th, 2018 Ain’t That Rich will be featured at United Solo Festival in New York City.
